As ocean sustainability grows in importance and the UN seeks to implement policy for the management of areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) the understanding of human impact across our oceans becomes ever more critical. This paper examines the role in which multi-source space-based data can be synthesized and how the powerful visualization and analysis tools available through GIS can be used to provide information and insights to decision makers within the marine spatial planning process.
