Over the last two years, Esri has rolled out 3D capability that enables customers to distribute and visualize content across a diverse platform of products and SDKs. A key component of this effort has been the Indexed 3D Scene Layer (I3S) specification that we first released publicly in 2015. Through the I3S specification, we shared a pattern and interface for any 3D GIS application to either consume or create heterogeneous, scalable caches of information that can be used with web, mobile, and desktop applications. I3S even has a mechanism for packaging content, which is how ArcGIS Earth, a 50MB application, is able to read huge integrated mesh layers of 100GB or larger. The use of I3S does not require the use of Esri technology. This workshop will cover a discussion of the I3S spec and structure, an update on the OGC Community Standards process, and descriptions of how I3S can be used by partners and customers.
