Ever wonder why people make a change and what that change means to them? Join James Fallows—Redlands native and coauthor (with his wife, Deborah Fallows) of Our Towns: A 100,000-Mile Journey into the Heart of America—for a panel discussion about why people pursue change.
The panel will feature several local business owners and residents. They will share their analyses about what attracts a person to a place; why they stay; and how we can make Redlands an even better place to live, work, and thrive.
The featured panelists include longtime Redlands patrons, business owners, and friends of the community. Here are just a few of the special guests:
James Fallows is a longtime book and magazine writer. He is the author of 12 books and has won both the National Magazine Award and the American Book Award. His main writing site, on Substack, is called Breaking the News. He grew up in Redlands and went to public school there. During the Jimmy Carter administration, he was the chief White House speechwriter. He and his wife, Deborah, also write on the Our Towns Civic Foundation site. Their 2021 movie, Our Towns, which was based on their best-selling book and includes extensive scenes from Redlands and the Inland Empire, is streaming on HBO Max.
Kadir Fakir is a co-owner of Cheesewalla in the Orange Street Alley.
Danny Anderson is the former president of the Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and is new to Redlands.
Melissa Fisher is a co-owner of Escape Craft Brewery.
Brandon Pearce is a co-owner of Citrone Restaurant & Bar.
Kate Salvesen is the new executive director of the Rochford Foundation.
Brian Davis is an IT professional and is new to Redlands.
