Esri welcomes David J. Hayes, Special Assistant to the President for Climate Policy, White House Climate Policy Office, to the plenary. Mr. Hayes discusses the importance of mapping and GIS for climate resilience, followed by a climate portal demonstration from Esri’s Sean Breyer.
• Federal agencies are coming together to develop and share a new collection of science-based climate data in new national GIS portals. These portals allow us to organize and reference distributed collections of data and communicate through information products for greater understanding.
• Using some of the online services provided by US federal agencies, we can create portals that include snapshot infographics of climate indicators such as drought, extreme heat, flooding and more.
• Moving from science to action requires a different type of map. Policy maps from the Living Atlas of the World can help us see the impact of climate change.
• Federal agencies across the US government are using this pattern for developing portals to increase access to the best science, maps and tools to help state, local and tribal governments organize around climate resilience.
