Moffatt & Nichol, a mid-sized engineering and infrastructure advisory firm, serves clients in the marine terminal, transportation, energy, environmental, federal, and urban development markets worldwide. With a diverse and demanding project pipeline, time is everything, and choosing the right tools to maximize efficiency is essential. Anything that can help the visualization team to reduce project time and trim the budget is a huge benefit. After Hurricane Katrina severely damaged the 600-slip New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor, the city opted to replace the facility, with Moffatt & Nichol on board to manage the rebuild. A critical part of the process lay in the visualization team’s ability to produce clear, convincing graphics for stakeholders, in this case, within a two-week deadline. The solution: When the team discovered the ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud plugin, they realized they could add the mapping functionality to other software when needed. Usually data, maps, and aerials were obtained through the GIS department, adding people and time to the project. For the first time, team members were able to easily pull satellite images directly into Photoshop, then turn them into layered files with additional relevant data. ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud allowed the visualization team to produce detailed, data-rich layered Photoshop files in a fraction of the time required by traditional methods. With the addition of ArcGIS to the workflow, production time was cut in half, the project came in under budget, and the team truly became a “one stop shop” for visualization graphics at Moffatt & Nichol.
