Decarbonization has resulted in a five-year backlog of renewable interconnection applications to the grid. The US Department of Energy has stated that grid capacity will need to expand two times regionally and four times inter-regionally over just a few decades. The power of GIS helps electric transmission stakeholders understand the grid and its challenges; the National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor (NIETC), jurisdictions, siting, land issues, and compliance. Participants will gain insights into how GIS can be applied to short and long-term transmission planning and operations.
