Effective stormwater management is currently a missed opportunity for communities to supplement water supplies, recharge groundwater tables, and protect and improve local aquatic ecosystems. In addition, nearly every City in the US is required to comply with urban stormwater regulations (NPDES permits) that stem from the Clean Water Act (1972). Regulatory requirements continue to change but resource-limited municipalities struggle to keep up. 2NDATURE saw an opportunity to create a GIS-based stormwater software solution and provide cities a holistic approach to integrate stormwater program elements, comply with regulations and efficiently manage more effective programs.
Conceived and developed by scientists, 2NForm is a cost-effective standardized solution to simplify compliance while providing a defensible and scalable quantification of the volume and pollutant reduction benefits achieved. Simple to deploy, the standardized data formats, field protocols and customized applications empower city staff to collect, manage and access required information more efficiently using a geospatial framework. These field data become inputs to the 2NDNATURE purpose-built urban hydrology and pollutant loading model (Beck et al 2017) to quantify the environmental benefits of program assets and actions in mapped formats. With more efficiency and better communication, cities can focus limited resources on implementing the most effective actions in the most urgent locations. Ultimately, these changes will empower cities to reduce the hydrologic and pollutant impacts their urban stormwater has on the local waterways.
