With over 1 million residents condensed into a small coastal area, the city of Honolulu faces challenges of traffic congestion and urban sprawl. While they already use GIS to help manage their city, they needed to find a way to evaluate the potential impact of various public transit design scenarios.
In this presentation from the 2012 Esri User Conference, the mayor of Hawaii shares how they use CityEngine to design and evaluate a potential elevated rail system. Watch the live demo as they use CityEngine to measure walking distances to potential stations, and to show the effect an elevated transit system could have on urban sprawl in Honolulu.
