Communities in Wisconsin are experiencing more frequent and severe precipitation events that often overwhelm traditional stormwater management infrastructure and result in costly flooding damage. As a result, communities are exploring green infrastructure to help manage the water generated by these events. Public engagement is essential for building support for new green infrastructure initiatives and it can be challenging to choose and locate effective practices and evaluate their cumulative impact. Wisconsin Sea Grant has developed an ArcGIS GeoPlanner template for green infrastructure that allows users to visualize and draw scenarios, analyze their impact at a variety of scales, and use map layers and spatial analyses to choose suitable locations for green infrastructure practices.
