Cedric Vidonne, Information Management Officer UNHCR, discusses the visually engrossing story map he made for The UN Refugee Agency to raise awareness about the threats faced by some 670,000 Rohingya refugees crowded into an instant city in Bangladesh near the Myanmar border. Thoughtfully composed, with the ability to view the content in four different languages, the story map brings together well-designed maps, charts, and gripping photographs to portray the dangers of the coming monsoon season and to reveal one of the largest and fastest-growing refugee crises in decades. Vidonne’s “Rohingya Refugee Emergency at a Glance” story map was recognized and awarded grand prize in the 2018 Esri Storytelling with Maps contest.
