With the September 2021 release of ArcGIS Online, we added a new capability to Map Viewer called Effects. Effects bring Photoshop-like capabilities to your layers in your web maps. ArcGIS Online makes it very easy to try out simple visual effects that make your maps stand out and get noticed. A simple drop shadow on your polygon map of statistical data helps draw the reader’s eye to the subject you really want them to see. In this example, you also see how to blend the local terrain into the map to give better context to your statistical data, and how use drop shadow on a group layer containing unpopulated census blocks to reveal how your city’s built environment factors into your map’s subject.
