Welcome to Mappy Minute, where Esri Cartographers Kenneth Field, Edie Punt, and Nathan Shephard discuss some of their favorite maps from the 2022 Esri UC Map Gallery and what makes them great. This Mappy Minute features the map of Auckland’s transport network by David Sherman. 

Map details: This map visualizes the city of Auckland, New Zealand using only the lines of its transport network. While no natural features are directly represented, Auckland's iconic bays are obvious in the negative space between its roads and highways. The style is monochromatic, based around the distinctive red hue of the New Zealand state highway system shield.
