The Franklin School was built in 1869 in Washington, DC, and served as the model for the US public school system, offering free education to as many as 900 students per year. It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1996. Today, it houses Planet Word, designed to provide a unique museum experience devoted to exploring the ever-changing nature of language and how it has shaped society.
