In response to Hurricane Ian, urban search and rescue teams used the Search and Rescue Common Operating Platform (SARCOP) to document work and show tracks on a shared map to eliminate duplication. This innovative tool is being developed by the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS (NAPSG) Foundation, with funding and support from the US Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology (DHS S&T), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and solution engineers from Esri who have refined the toolset over the course of many disaster events. The SARCOP platform allows for secure, interagency field data collection, QA/QC, analysis, and visualization.
The data for this animation comes direct from SARCOP, showing the progress of search and rescue teams over time in the hardest hit coastal regions of Lee County, Florida.
Please visit the Esri Blog (https://www.esri.com/about/newsroom/blog/hurricane-ian-searchers-shared-map) for more of the story. Details on SARCOP can be found on the NAPSG site (https://techinnovation.napsgfoundation.org/pages/sar). The tool incorporates ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS QuickCapture, and other Esri capabilities.
