The Philadelphia region has been a leader in developing so-called "green" stormwater infrastructure systems as well as regulatory changes that incentivize adoption. This talk will outline the background of the Philadelphia Water Department's "Green City, Clean Waters" program, a 25-year effort to reduce CSO through green infrastructure. GIS plays a critical role in the billing systems, regulatory framework, and ongoing management. In addition, the talk will introduce a second project in the Philadelphia region, Model My Watershed, an effort originally developed as an educational game for middle and high school students and is also now available to local planners to assess the impact of changes on local stormwater runoff.
