As is true for many parts of California and the nation, Sonoma County has experienced devastating fires and floods within a short timeframe, resulting in massive impacts to public health and safety, our local economy and our watersheds. As local elected leaders, we have a key role to play in ensuring the use of the best available data to achieve multiple objectives for our community, ensuring that our lands and people are resilient to extreme events and the effects of a changing climate. Further, local leaders have decision making authority in directing local agencies to use complex spatial data in an integrated fashion in order to achieve better outcomes and return on investment for the taxpayers.
