In this video, we will walk through a few common scenarios that GIS professionals are likely to run into when trying to import CAD data from a .dwg file to a GIS. Specifically, where in the world is the CAD drawing? Whether the drawing is GIS-friendly, located in page units, or somewhere in between, we’ll look at ways to address this critical first step in using CAD as a source for GIS data. The context for this tutorial is an indoor GIS project where we’re starting with CAD .dwg files with floor-plan data for each floor of a building. Before we can use this data, we need to make sure it’s in a real-world coordinate system.
