To better integrate coastal vulnerability into land use planning, a statewide zoning layer was synthesized for California’s coastal zone. The new spatial layer provides the necessary context for policy changes based on coastal vulnerability assessment results. By reaching out to local planners, the project team distilled local zoning codes into generalized categories and merged them into one statewide layer. The final product features 93.1% coverage by area and is shared in an online viewer.
