The Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Washington State is one of 29 national reserves. The reserves provide research and education outreach on the nearshore environments in which they are sited. The Padilla Bay reserve hosts the largest eelgrass meadow on the west coast of North America and we are using geospatial technologies in collection, analysis and visualization of the eelgrass habitats. ESRI tools help us understand the complex relationship between the two intermixed eelgrass species (Zostera japonica and Zostera marina). This presentation will provide an overview of the monitoring program, the methods and results of using ESRI Empirical Bayesian kriging (EBK) tools to analyze and visualize 9 years of monitoring data.
