Learn how the onscreen Navigator in ArcGIS Pro can help you interactively explore your maps and scenes with more precise control over your camera.
Navigating around certain types of GIS content can be difficult – for example, underground, within buildings, and through lidar – so a dedicated control with well-defined camera movements is a useful option. The control is also suitable for touch screen interaction, and its ability to rotate around a target point makes it well suited for tasks such as feature inspection and 3D editing. Even as a passive element in the view, the Navigator provides value as a north indicator.
In our example, we’ll be using the control to navigate into a vector-tile map for North America in 2D, and through Boston’s downtown buildings in 3D.
In this short video, you will learn how to:
• Enable the onscreen Navigator
• Use the Navigator for panning and facing north
• Resize the control to your preferences, including for touch screen usage
• Use the full control display state of the Navigator for rotating, zooming, looking around, and raising/lowering the camera
• Set your preferences for how the control appears when maps and scenes are opened
All the control elements in the Navigator are available via keyboard shortcuts with mouse navigation, too. You can learn more about navigating in general in the ArcGIS Pro Help.
